A Rose Is A Rose

I made this card for my sister-in-laws birthday using the beautiful A Rose Is A Rose stamp set and Stem Sayings stamp set. This is a 2 step stamping technique (for a demonstration on how to do 2-step stamping give me a ring to book a workshop).
The colours I have used are pale plum, pure plum, always artichoke and mellow moss, and of course good old whisper white.
The half pearls from the pretties kit look fabulous with it.

The Last of my Simply Scrappin' 6x6 Cards

This is the last of the Simply Scrappin' cards I made last week.
Apart from the brads and the Pixie Pink Stampin' Write Marker, all the elements, card and stickers come from the Petal Party kit.
The flower was made using the scalloped edged punch on the Designer Series Paper. Contact me for instructions or to book a workshop for a demonstration.
Handy tip: If something is going to be hidden behind another layer of card, for example ribbon, or in this case the line of green, circle die-cut stickers, then just use a small piece covering the ends with the top card layer. This will save you quite a few stickers and a fair amount of ribbon. In the example above there are no green, circle stickers behind the photo!

Scrappin' Saturday - How To Take Scrapbook-Worthy Pictures of Active Children

From www.stampingismybusiness.com
Everyone loves taking baby pictures. Cute little ones on their backs or their stomachs, making adorable faces or getting into funny situations.
Getting a good picture of your little one once their more mobile, however, can become a bit more of a challenge.
Often, they're moving from one thing to another so quickly that, by the time you're set up, you've missed the shot.
Here are a few tips for capturing those fast-moving kids:
1. Use a fast shutter speed. Sports photographers know the only way to really capture the action is to take the kind of shot that freezes time. Set your shutter speed for 1/500th of a second or higher and you'll be able to avoid most blurry photos... even if you're moving your camera to track your subject when you snap the picture!
2. Use a flash. Sometimes, in low-light situations, you won't be able to shoot at a very high shutter speed. In those situations, a flash will do a fair job accomplishing the same benefit as the first tip.
3. Shoot wide. Don't worry about getting too close to your fast-moving subject. You run the risk of cutting them off at the edge of your shot. Instead, shoot a wider angle. That way, you have more choices for composition when you edit the photos later. And don't worry about cropping too much when you edit. Most of today's cameras have enough megapixel power that you won't lose resolution no matter how much you zoom in for your edits!
Employ these three tips consistently and you'll find a lot more action photos to choose from when you're putting together your scrapbook pages

Embossed Candle

One of my friends, Shaynon Taurua, loved the embossing on candles that we did at Stamp Fest so much that she has been making loads as presents for her friends.

She has made a fabulous job with this one using the Circle Circus Stamp Set in Gold Emboss powder and trimmed with the 1" Double-Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon (pg 150).

Thank you for sharing this Shaynon.

To find out more about embossing on a candle contact me on 09 238 2100.

God bless

Stamp Fest Fun

What an amazing day we had at Stamp Fest. So many gifts given away, so many smiles and laughs. Thanks to all who came. It was a great success.

Congratulations to Fleur Scott. She won the Prize Draw which contained $200 worth of Stampin' Up! product.

We have yet to decide the next Stamp Fest date. We will keep you posted.

The Embossing Queen

I think that if I had to choose my very favourite paper crafting technique, it would have to be heat embossing. It takes everything to such a different level. On this bag that I gave as a gift at Stamp Fest last Saturday, I covered the whole bag in Versamark. Sprinkled it with the clear emboss powder, then before heating it with the heat tool, I scratched all over with the bone folder to get a crocadile skin affect. Very funky!

I used the stunning Filigree brads for extra Wow!

Add Christmas Cheer

Many of us like to give a bottle of wine as a gift at this time of the year. Why not make it extra special by decorating the bottle!
For the bottle wrap I have used the Scallop Edge Punch on Choc Chip card stock to create the 'frill'.
I used the Urban Garden Designer Series Paper as the 'wrap', but before I adhered it to the bottle I daubed the edges with Choc Chip ink.
For the label I used Choc Chip, Baja Breeze and Whisper White card stock and daubed choc Chip ink around the edge of each piece.
I used the Baja Breeze ink and clear emboss powder on the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp (the embossing looks fab! but it is a bit lost on this photo).
To finish off I threaded the White Taffeta ribbon through and threaded (with help with some cotton thread) on a bead from the Pretties Kit.
You may noice by the way that the bottle is empty! My husband was gutted when I nicked a bottle of good wine. Which is another point. If you have bought a nice bottle of wine write the wine information on the back of the label.
Have fun

Christmas Tree Decoration

This Christamas tree decoration was described to me over the phone by my wonderful upline Anela Corbett. She had used the scalloped punch for hers, but I would imagine that it would look good created using a whole variety of the punches.
I made mine using the curly label punch.
1. Punch eight shapes out of the Bella Bleu Designer Series Paper.

2. Score them using the bone folder and a ruler. Then fold them in half.

3. Adhere one half of a punchie to another using a 2-Way Glue Pen or a SNAIL adhesive. Do that on four of the punchies. (I forgot when I did mine so had to pull it apart hence the photo showing six punchies stuck together).

4. Place a piece of taffeta ribbon down the centre and then continue gluing down your punchies.

5.When you have stuck them all down make a loop at the top with the ribbon using a piece of matching thread to tie it. At the bottom thread a bead from the pretties kit onto the taffeta ribbon. I find it easier to tie a piece to thread to the ribbon first and pull that through the bead first. You need a bit of brute force, but it does work!

I hope that you have fun making this.

The Curly Label Punch Bundle is part of this months specials. If you purchase this or a variety of the other items on the Christmas Gift-Giving Guide and total is $105 or more than you will receive the Scalloped Square Punch for free. What a great Christmas Present.

Wild About You

I cased the crocodile card off of someone from splitcoaststampers. I went back to find out who it was, but there are over 300 pages for just this one stamp set! I must say it is an extremely versatile set.
I have used the wide oval punch for the image and just layered up two ovals behind it in the same colour as the ink.
If you are wanting Christmas present idea, I don't think that you can go much past giving your friends and loved ones a pack of hand made cards. If you do simple, but funky ones like this it wouldn't take you too long either.
Give it a go yourself. Give me a ring to order your Wild About You stamp set ($53.95) and the wide oval punch ($35.95) today on 09 238 2100 or donnacalley@xtra.co.nz.

Cute and Curly Thank You With Style

This card I started playing with yesterday and changed the flower about 4 times before I came up with this very simple solution. I think that these Stampin' Up! Filigree Brads are absolutely gorgeous and at $13.95 for 16 (two different sizes) they are a fabulous buy. And seeing that the Curly Label Punch Bundle has been used, it makes for a really quick card aswell.

Thank You For Your friendship

I have resisted getting this Curly Label Punch Bundle ($77.95) for far too long. It is absolutely amazing what you can do with it. You will be seeing quite a few example over the next wee while. There is even a Christmas label in the set so Christmas is a breeze. You can use it to make your cards and your tags and just call it a set.

On this sample I have daubed around the edge in Pink Passion Ink and after hole punching and treading hemp twine through I attached a Felt Fusion Flower with a Rhinestone brad.

This label is attached to a pack of cards that I gave to friend for her birthday. She was so excited to receive it. So would your friends to! Just make a variety of cards put them in a SU! large cello bag, wrap some matching ribbon around and put a cool tag on it. A fabulous Christmas gift.

Eva's Baby Card

I thought I'd take the opportunity to show you the card that Eva and I created last week using some hope punches, ribbon, Wanted stamp set and the Whisper White Craft Ink.
I have wanted to make one of these cards for a long time. I must admit it was great fun...especially doing it with my 6 year old daughter. That is the best thing about being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, you not only can make great money, get truck loads of incentives (you should see my stamp set collection, just as an example), meet so many wonderful people, but you also get to choose your hours. I choose my hours so that my two youngest kids are at home and I am able to pick Eva up from school and I can do things with them during the holidays, such as make cards with all my free stamp sets!
If you would like to find out more about the Stampin' Up! business opportunity and this months special incentive to all new demonstrators who sign up before the end of October, contact me on 09 238 2100 or donnacalley@xtra.co.nz.

Simply Stamp Fest

We have purposefully made the eight cards that we are doing for Stamp Fest clean and simple. You will be able to reproduce the lay outs using a variety of other stamp sets.

I have used the square hole punches for these. I have thought in the past that they were a waste of time, but when you want to make a card in a hurry the square hole punches are fantastic. I highly recommend them.

Snow Swirled At Stamp Fest

I'm so sorry that many of these Stamp Fest photos are blurry. I hope that you get excited about Stamp Fest anyway.

There is a great prize draw again with about $200 worth of Stampin' Up! product. Everyone who attends will be receiving a ticket, but you will also get an extra ticket for early registration and for bringing a friend who isn't one of our current customers.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Stamp Fest Cards continued

I based this card on one that I saw months ago on Split Coast Stampers. I don't know who to credit for the design, but if it was you, thank you. I'm sure the Stamp Fest attendees would want to thank you also.

Wedding Box With A Twist

I love the Sour Cream Box. It is very quick, easy and stunning! It is basically a cylinder that is twisted in the middle. Check out http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/ for the tutorial. The white Baroque Motif design and the flowers are embossed. For the flowers I dipped a piece of black card stock into versamark then clear embossed it before punching with the Trio Flower Punch.
The white circles of the flower have a blob of Crystal Effects on it to give the 'brad' look.
Give me a shout if you need to stock up your craft cupboard.

Krafty Wedding Invitation.

I absolutely adore the Kraft cardstock from Stampin'Up! and af course they have designer series paper to match. The paper that I have used here is the Bella Bleu series.
The ribbon I have used is the kraft taffeta, the stamp set is Please Come and I have also used the Jumbo Eyelets were set using the Crop-a-Dile.
My lovely team member Carolyn made the box for me. I love being a part of a team.

Once Upon A Time....

Here is another of the invites from the Wedding Show. I just love the white look on a wedding card.
I have used the gorgeous Riding Hood Red taffeta ribbon. I struggled to get the beads on (from the Pretties Kit), however I discovered that when you tie cotton thread around the end of the ribbon and uses brute force, you can manage to get them on.

Get in touch with me today to make a purchase or to find out more about Stampin' Up!

Wedding Invite With Style

I love the look of black and white together. On this card I have applied Versamark Ink with the Baroque Border wheel onto the Basic Black cardstock, then I have embossed in white. The 'happily ever after' (from Once Upon A Time - $39.95) is also embossed.
The ribbon is threaded through a ribbon buckle from the Hodgepodge Kit.
Have fun creating

Ribbon With A Twist

Yes, this is Stampin' Up! ribbon. I have played with it (quite a bit) to get this effect.
-Cut a length of 5/8" Old Olive grosgrain ribbon.
-Snip the edge off along the length.
-Use your snips to tease out half of the strands ( do this a few strands at a time).
-Put the point of your snips in every 1.5cm and twist them about to make a gap (this will also create the wave effect at the bottom of your ribbon).
-Pull the ribbon straight.
-Adhere it to your card.
-Twist the threads together that you pulled out of the original ribbon.
-Use a Designer Brad to make the top of the tassle.
-Attach to the card.

I hope that this makes sense.

Kind regards

Donna

The Wedding Show

Created by Donna Calley, Carolyn Loveday and Jess McDonald (some of these cards are inspired from Splitcoaststampers.com, one is a Convension Swap)

I spent today demonstrating at The Wedding Show in Auckland with two lovely ladies from my team Jess and Carolyn. We had a fabulous day however, you can tell from our spread that we have also had a fantastic month of stamping prior to the day just getting all the samples ready.

If you are getting married in the near future it is really worth thinking about making your own wedding stationery and favours (boxes). It is a much cheaper option, it is very rewarding and it is a lot easier than you think. I can steer you in the right direction to help you on your way to making your own fabulous designs. You could also host a workshop and receive lots of free product that you can use for you wedding invites (and at the same time I can teach your friends to stamp so that they can help you!!)

Contact me today if you would like further information, donnacalley@xtra.co.nz or 09 238 2100.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Did You Floss Today?

No, I don't mean your teeth, I mean your cards! If you stick your card in the wrong place it is a real pain. But, if you have used a small amount of the fantastic SNAIL adhesive in each corner of your card layer (which as you know is all you need, that is why it is so great!) then you can slide some dental floss between the two offending pieces of card to remove it. Do this slowly so you don't rip the card. This prevents you from getting that horrible bend that you get when you try to pull the card off.

Stunning Flower

This is another version of the scalloped flower card. I demonstrated how to make the flower at the Stampin' Up! Auckland regional training. We had a great time at the training and it was lovely meeting other SU! demonstrators. If you are one of those lovely ladies thank you for making the day so enjoyable.
That is the great thing about the Stampin' Up! company is that you get great training, make great new friendships and of course make good money aswell.
Get in touch if you would like to find out more information about being a demonstrator. Phome me on 09 238 2100 or e-mail me donnacalley@xtra.co.nz.
Take care
Donna
PS The background stamp is En Francais.

Scallop Punch Flower Tutorial

I was going to just send you the link to where I found the tutorial for this, but I can't find it. And seeing that I am going to demo this at the Stampin' Up! Auckland Regional Training tomorrow I have to get samples ready anyway. (Iapologise that the end of this tutorial goes a bit mad, but the blog site I use is not understanding sense at the moment. That is why I know there is a Divine Creator - man nor nature has ever been able to invent anything half as capable as God has!!! If you are unsure of this or if you want to find out more then come along to Sistas this week in Auckland)

1. Punch a scalloped circle. (This is Summer Sun)

2. Daube around the edge in Tangerine Tango or Pumkin Pie ink.

3. Snip every second scallop, about one cm.

4. Turn scalloped circle over onto the foam part of the Mat Pack. Use the rounded end of the Bone Folder to indent each petal.

5. Turn back over and indent the middle of the flower with the Bone
Folder. You can gently daube this with your Pumpkin Pie or Tangerine Tango aswell to achieve a shadow look.
6. Embellish with a half pearl or a Jumbo Brad from the current mini.
